Red Deer with 861 active cases of COVID-19

Red Deer has 861 active cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, a drop of 54 active cases from Monday where a new record was set for the city at 915.

The previous high was 911 on May 8 at the peak of the third wave.

Recoveries are listed at 6,924 – up 98, as Red Deer added 46 new COVID cases over the past day for a total of 7,845 since the pandemic began.

Red Deer’s active case rate is currently 809.2 per 100,000 people, compared to 261.8 for the City of Calgary and 305.6 for the City of Edmonton.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 60, with two more reported since Monday.

The entire Central Zone has 4,129 active cases as of Tuesday, down 106 from Monday. There are 186 hospitalizations, up two, and 21 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down two from Monday.

The zone has had 249 deaths linked to the virus, with three more reported Tuesday.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Over the past day, Alberta Health has confirmed 1,246 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in the province now to 20,513.

Of Alberta’s active cases, 7,481 of those have been identified as variant cases or 36.4 per cent of all active cases.

With 11,144 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 11.1 per cent.

There have been 18 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province now to 2,663.

There are 5,280 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton zone, 4,930 in the Calgary zone, 3,894 active cases in the North zone, 2,260 in the South zone, and 20 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 6,031,708 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Sept. 27. That’s up 18,431 from Monday.

Of the 12+ population, 83.2 per cent has received at least one dose (70.8% total population), while 74.0 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (62.9% total population).

In Red Deer, 68,867 (75.1% eligible/64.7% total) people have received at least one dose. Meanwhile, 60,841 residents (66.3%/57.1%) are fully vaccinated.
