Mrs. Bernice Olive Brownlee passed away peacefully, with her son, Brian by her side, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, September 16, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Bernice was born on March 28, 1933 in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, the fourth child of five born to Arthur and Selma Watterud. Her first seven years were spent on the family farm, until they moved into the small Prairie Town of Kelvington, where her dad continued his Carpentry Trade. On April 9, 1950, Bernice and Alastair (Red) were married in Oshawa, Ontario, where Red worked for General Motors. Daughter, Heather was born there and the small family of three returned to the west, moving to the Joffre area. Here the family increased to six with the birth of Karen, Sandy and Brian. In the summer of 1965, Red and Bernice purchased the farm south of Eckville, and were partners in their mixed farming operation. Always a willing volunteer, Bernice was involved with community, church and family activities. Her bountiful garden supplied produce for her family, as well as appreciative neighbors. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Bernice was a talented seamstress, knitter, and crocheter, as well as a top notch cook. She loved music, playing piano for her family’s enjoyment, as well as singing in the church choir. Her children, grandchildren and then great grandchildren were the light of her life and reaped the benefits of her love. Bernice and Red shared sixty-three years of marriage before Red’s passing in 2013. Bernice left the farm and relocated to the Eckville Manor; where she enjoyed the companionship and security of being surrounded by friends. Bernice will be lovingly remembered by her children, Heather Lazzer (Brian), Karen Andrew (Ron), Sandy French (Bob), Brian Brownlee (Cindy) and Shelley Brownlee; her grandchildren, Tracy Black (Darcy), Michelle Middleton (Bryan), Gina Hamilton (Trevor), Darren Andrew (Kym), Brad French, Joline Magwood (Wayne), Andrea Trainor (Nathan), Steven Lazzer (Sherrisse), Dylan Brownlee (Whitney),and Chantelle Brownlee; her sixteen great grandchildren, Declan, Grace, Aidan, Ryan, Calder, Cale, Jessica, Jayden, Matthew, Louis, Evie, Simon, Bianca, Benjamin, Audrey and Ford; her brother, Ernest Watterud (Ethel), her sister, Lorraine Colby (Bob), her sister-in-law, Lil Watterud; as well as other extended family and a host of friends.
