With heartfelt sorrow and disbelief we announce the passing of our beloved Larry. He passed away Monday, September 6, 2021 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Center, at the age of 64 years, after a brief but hard fought battle with Covid.
Larry leaves to mourn his devoted wife Mona, of eighteen years, their son Andrew Goulding of Drayton Valley, son Robbie Oram of Edmonton, daughter Danielle (Harvey) Jimenez of Rocky Rapids, daughter Marlena Goulding of Edmonton and son Lucas Goulding of Edmonton. Also deeply mourning the passing of their precious Papa are his four treasures Brooklyn, Brayden, Kali Rian and Mila Jimenez
Larry was born to Herbert and Mae Goulding on November 2, 1956 in Grand Falls, Newfoundland. He completed his high school in Gambo, Newfoundland. In 1973 Larry was a track runner on the Newfoundland Team that participated at the Canada Games. After high school Larry worked for a year at IOCC in Labrador City, Newfoundland. From there he attended Salvation Army College for ministerial studies in St John’s. In his ministry Larry worked at the Harbour Light Addiction and Rehab Center in St John’s. He spread the word of God in places he was stationed like Trout River and Woodstock, Newfoundland. Larry enjoyed being a band member as he was very musical and enjoyed playing different instruments. Larry had a euphonious voice that would stand out beautifully when singing during church services. Men’s fellowship camp and get-togethers were always an enjoyable time and a highlight of his memories.
In 1982 Larry’s changed careers and was hired by the Energy Resources Conservation Board of Alberta. He started his career with the Board as a Clerk but soon moved up the scale. The highlight of his career, on regulatory side of the oil and gas industry in Alberta, was when he and couple of colleges were selected to take on the daunting task of rewriting the Regulations Manual that was a guideline for the government regulatory body. His days with the Board were exciting and took him to live in Calgary, Medicine Hat, Wainwright, Drayton Valley and High Level. Larry retired from the board as Team Leader in High Level in 2014 after thirty two very impressive years with the board.
Larry didn’t retire for long…he moved back to Drayton Valley to be close to the grand children. Time was long and Larry had to keep busy so back to work he went…he worked at Fountain Tire in Drayton Valley for a while and then he moved on to Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Drayton Valley. He was a one man show at Enterprise, but a more dedicated worker will never be found. No matter what the job, he took pride in his work and gave it 110% every single day! The night Andrew had to take him to emergency to be admitted, Andrew had to drive thru the Enterprise parking lot so Larry could count inventory! True story…so dedicated!!
Larry enjoyed genealogy. He loved his iPad. He enjoyed watching Gaither Gospel Hour. He loved travelling with his camper in tow. He loved the outdoors, the campfires and looking at the night sky. He could watch for hours for planets, night stars, satellites and he so enjoyed the northern lights. Larry recently received (but he didn’t even get to see it) his Silver card from Canadian Blood Services signifying 50 donations. I know he would have donated more but when CBS stopped doing mobile collection it made it harder to make donations. The very last thing that Larry and Andrew did together before Larry became ill was he and Andrew went to Edmonton and donated blood…Larry his 50th time and Andrew donated for his very first time. Such a wonderful legacy to pass on to his son. Just one example of the selflessness, kindness and generosity that Larry demonstrated daily.
Also feeling an incredible loss is Judy Goulding (sister) of Scarborough, ON, (brother) Woodrow (Frances) Goulding of Gambo, NL, (brother) Gary Goulding of Stratford, ON, (sister) Roslyn(Terry) Kelly of Gambo, NL (brother) Fraser (Glenda) Goulding of LaScie, NL along with a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.
