It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mr. David ‘Dave’ Gary Gunderson passed away peacefully with his daughter Corie and his son-in-law Joe by his side after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 76 years. Dave was born in Eatonia, Saskatchewan on May 12, 1945 to parents, ‘Tiny’ and ‘Chic’ Gunderson, and was raised in the Town of White Bear, Saskatchewan. Dave left for Calgary and attended SAIT, where he graduated in 1965. He returned to Saskatchewan and met Dorlene Carnduff, whom he married in 1967. They spent eighteen years together and had two daughters, Karie and Corie. At the age of 27, Dave moved to Dubai, UAE to work for Baker Oil Tools. He spent three years there and then moved several more times, living and working in many different countries. After a long and successful career in the Oilfield, Dave semi-retired at the age of forty-five to pursue a few hobby businesses. Dave enjoyed winters in Arizona and summers in Canada. He would travel to Saskatchewan to see his High School friends, to British Columbia to spend time with his brother, Don, and anywhere else his jetboating and drag racing circle of people took him. Dave made several trips out east to visit Karie and her family and when they came home, he always planned a family getaway to some of his favorite spots! When he wasn’t travelling, he was tinkering in the shop, out west with his pals, or at Corie and Joe’s house enjoying a home cooked meal. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Dave had just finished building his dream race car with his friend, George. His 55 Regent made two trips to the track before being parked at his acreage. Sadly, that is when he learned of his cancer diagnosis. Dave was a warrior and was stoic until the very end. His one wish was to go back home to his acreage, but unfortunately he was never able to do that. Dave looked forward to all of the family and friends that were able to visit him during his hospital stay and will never forget his people. Dave had a great sense of humor and a passion for life. He used laughter to lighten the mood and his energy was contagious. He was a wonderful dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and mentor. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Karie (Greg) and Corie (Joe); his grandchildren Sarah, Jeffrey, Riley and Beatrice; his brother, Don; his nieces, Dawn and Cindy and their families; and of course, his friends with whom he shared his passion for jet boating, drag racing and sledding. Dave was predeceased by his parents. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
