Applications open for Community Recreation Enhancement Grant

Sep 14, 2021 | 10:54 AM

Local non-profit groups are invited to apply for funding through the City of Red Deer’s Community Recreation Enhancement Grant.

The program provides funding to enhance the delivery of community recreation programs, services and events in Red Deer.

New for fall 2021, intake of the Community Recreation Enhancement Grant will see all applications submitted via online portal. The submission system is described as quick to set up and easy to use.

According to City officials, applications are accepted two times per year. Completed applications must be submitted prior to the deadlines of 12:00 p.m. on April 1 or October 1 of the funding year.

In 2020, the City awarded approximately $100,000 to community sport and recreation groups in order to support and enhance their ability to deliver recreation services and programs to Red Deerians. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, continues to have a significant impact on the recreation sector.

Officials worked with awarded organizations on grant and reporting requirements in order to allow them room to adapt their project planning and service delivery in light of the pandemic. A complete listing of 2020 grant recipients is available here.

Recreation Superintendent Barb McKee encourages community groups to access the second application intake of Oct. 1, which can help them carry out their goals of providing recreation opportunities in the community.

“These funds may be more valuable than ever as our community organizations navigate in the wake of COVID-19, and we are proud to offer these resources to our community groups,” said McKee, in a press release.
