It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mr. Eugene ‘Gene’ Dmetro Styba at the Red Deer Hospice, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the age of 61 years.
Gene was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, square dancing, wine making, cooking, and spoiling his grandkids. If you couldn’t find him doing that, go check the garage, as he was always tinkering and fixing things. Gene started working for Deermart Equipment Sales Ltd. in Red Deer in 1988, and continued working there until 2019, when he was first diagnosed with cancer.
Gene will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-one years, Eileen Styba, and his son, Patrick (Katherine) and his daughter, Kalynna (Josh) Stenhouse, along with his grandchildren, Thomas, Samson, Benjamin, Evelyn, Jadon, Chasen, and John Henry. He will also be sadly missed by his parents, Vicky and Walter Styba of Roblin, Manitoba, his brothers, Nick Styba and John (Carol) Styba, his sister-in-law, Violet Styba, his in-laws, John and Ollie Clarke of Grande Prairie, Alberta and his brother-in-law, Chris Clarke; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Gene was predeceased by his brothers, Tom and Terry Styba, and a sister-in-law, Norma Hujdic.
We would like to thank all of the staff at the Red Deer Hospice, not only for their care and compassion to Gene during his final weeks, but also towards his family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Unity Baptist Church, 139 Northey Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if desired, Memorial Donations in Gene`s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com, Haying in the 30’s Cancer Support Society at www.hayinginthe30s.com or to Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Head and Neck Cancer at www.albertacancer.ca.
