Red Deer County resident acclaimed as official Senate candidate for Conservative Party of Canada

Alberta Senate candidate Pam Davidson of Red Deer County has received official confirmation from the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) that she has been acclaimed as a CPC candidate.

Davidson’s candidacy was approved by the Alberta Senate Candidate Nomination Committee (ASCNC) and by the National Candidate Selection Committee (NCSC).

The 2021 Senate election will coincide with the municipal elections happening in municipalities across Alberta on Oct. 18.

On election day, eligible voters will be given a ballot and the ability to select three senate nominees – one for each of the two vacancies and one in case of early retirement.

In order to be included on the ballot, Senate nominee candidates are required to collect 500 signatures for their nomination papers and provide a $4,000 deposit to Elections Alberta by Sept. 20.

Additionally, candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 30 years old, own $4,000 in real property in Alberta and be a resident of the province.

To date, five of Alberta’s elected Senate nominees have been appointed to the Senate: Stan Waters (1990), Bert Brown (2007), Betty Unger (2012), Doug Black and Scott Tannas (2013).

According to government officials, once a Senate nominee is elected, the Government of Alberta will provide the name of the Senate nominees to the prime minister for consideration when filling Senate vacancies. Senators are appointed by the governor general on the advice of the prime minister.

Officials with Davidson’s senate campaign describe her as a long-time conservative activist, organizer, and volunteer. The married mother of four owns and operates her own farm, raising livestock and producing various crops.

Davidson is said to be running to defend Alberta, protect small businesses, promote responsible natural resource development, uphold individual liberties, and stop anti-Alberta government overreach.

Davidson and her campaign team will be traveling across the province over the next few months to meet Albertans as she runs to purportedly defend Alberta’s interests in the Senate of Canada.

Davidson’s husband, Dr. Gary Davidson, unsuccessfully sought the UCP nomination against Jason Stephan in Red Deer-South in 2019. Pam Davidson previously ran against Stephan’s sister-in-law, Laura, in the 2017 municipal election in Red Deer County.
