Central Alberta Mopar 2021 Car Show returns this weekend

Aug 4, 2021 | 2:21 PM

The 27th annual Central Alberta Mopar 2021 Car Show is getting back to its roots after COVID-19 caused their 2020 event to have a slightly different look.

Last year instead of inviting people to come and look at the classic cars, they brought the cars out into the community, cruise-style.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 7 at the back parking lot of Parkland Mall, with cars and the public expected to start rolling in at 9am.

One of the organizers of the event, Dave Cross, says there’s a core group of Mopar enthusiasts that come out every year to participate in the event, with some coming from Calgary and Edmonton.

“Usually about 70-80 cars come to the show in the past, that’s what we seem to average. We’re expecting a little more this year cause everybody has been sitting at home the last two years on their thumbs and they’re probably anxious to get out, so we’re hoping that’ll reflect in the attendance…we try to time it so it’s between other Mopar events.”

It’s a free event for anyone to walk-in and check out the vehicles, while a donation is needed if you’d like to participate in the show. It’s open to any Chrysler vehicles, as well as American Motors cars.

Cross says hopefully next year the event will be back to full speed, barring any COVID restrictions at the time.

Proceeds from the event will be divided among local charities including the Red Deer Food Bank. Although the Red Deer Food Bank won’t be on site this year, the Central Alberta Mopar Association will still be accepting donations.
