City of Lacombe hires new Director of Community Services
The City of Lacombe has announced the promotion of Guy Lapointe as the City’s new Director of Community Services.
“City council is excited to see Guy Lapointe take on this new role with the City of Lacombe as Director of Community Services,” says Mayor Grant Creasey, in a press release. “Lapointe’s commitment to our community and the well-being of our citizens has been proven for over a decade. Council looks forward to working with Lapointe to provide a high quality of life in Lacombe for years to come.”
City officials say Lapointe comes into the position after a ten-year tenure as the City’s Manager of Community Economic Development, where he worked with his team, cross-departmentally, and with user groups to achieve many key City initiatives, including:
- Introducing the grassroots community economic development organization, Echo Lacombe, a non-profit society responsible for managing several business support programs and administering community grant funding.
- Introducing and growing Echo Energy to over 500 accounts, with all profits reinvested into local community projects and programs.
- Introducing a new regional transit system, working cross-departmentally and with the Town of Blackfalds and City of Red Deer.
- Producing several affordable housing projects by leveraging private and public investment and engaging a range of community stakeholders.
- Orchestrating several high-profile events, including Coors One Horse Town, Rogers Hometown Hockey, and the Allan Cup.
- Facilitating innovative land development initiatives that expanded the City’s commercial tax base and divested it of underutilized properties.
- Guiding the further implementation of projects identified in the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan utilizing IAP2 principles emphasizing collaboration with citizens and the business community.
