Red Deer with 24 active cases, lagging behind provincial vaccination rates

Red Deer now sits at 24 active cases of COVID-19.

That’s a two-day increase of one as the province last reported numbers on Wednesday, prior to the holiday.

The city’s total number of recorded cases is up six to 5,768, while recoveries went up by five to 5,702.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 42, with the last one reported June 29.

On the vaccination front Red Deer, 58,879 (~64.2 per cent of eligible) residents have now received at least one dose. Of those, 39,455 (43.0 per cent) are fully immunized with two doses.

Comparatively, across the province, 4,432,975 vaccine doses have now been delivered, with 73.1 per cent of eligible Albertans (aged 12+) having received at least one dose, while 44.8 per cent of those eligible are now fully immunized.

The Central Zone as a whole has 113 active cases as of Friday, down five, and 18 hospitalizations, down one, including two people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down two. The Central Zone has had 170 deaths linked to COVID-19, with one reported today.

Across Alberta, another 110 cases (43 on July 1, 67 on July 2) of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 10,732 tests over two days. That makes for a positivity rate of ~1.02 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 895, a two-day dip of 160.

There are 144 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 21, including 33 in intensive care, down one.

One new death linked to COVID-19 was reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,301.

· Date of death: July 1. A female in her 80s from Central Zone. The case included comorbidities.

Alberta Health reported Friday that one previously reported death has been determined post-mortem to not have COVID-19 as a contributing cause, so was removed from the provincial total.
