James “Jim” Michael Draney died peacefully on Monday, June 21 at 9:30 pm at his home in Calgary at the age of 67 surrounded by his family and enveloped in love.
Jim was born in Bassano, Alberta and the family relocated to Swift Current shortly after. In 1965 the family moved to Olds for the rest of the boys schooling and where Jim met the love of his life, Gail.
Jim was an avid nature enthusiast who loved hiking, hunting, fishing, camping and farming. Jim worked in Alberta’s oil patch and construction for most of his life and in the later years he was very proud to have worked for the City of Calgary in their Parks and Rec Department. Jim had a razor sharp memory and was a fountain of knowledge in any regard. His creative nature was expressed through hobbies such as drawing, wood working and leather work. He was a kind, funny, and humble man who has left an indelible mark on his friends and family. He will be greatly missed and forever cherished in our hearts and memories.
Jim was predeceased by his wife Gail McLean, parents Robert “Bob” and Elaine Draney (Calgary).
Jim is survived by his brother’s Wayne Draney (Calgary) and Calvin “Cal” Draney (Strathmore), his children Jason (Owen) Draney (Edmonton) and Tanya (Marc) Draney (Lac La Biche), his grandchildren Tristan (Katelyn) Draney (Lac La Biche) and Jayden (Connor) Draney (Lac La Biche). As well as his beloved great grandchild Ira Draney, his nieces Erin Draney (Calgary) and Kristy Draney, and his nephew Dylan Draney. And many more extended family and friends.
A special thank you to the staff at Walden Heights Agecare in Calgary who showed Jim compassion in his final days.
A come and go social celebrating the spirit of James Michael Draney will be held in Olds on July 7 from 2pm- 4pm at the Olds Heartland Funeral Home. Due to the lifting of Covid restrictions any family and friends are welcome to attend.
May he rest in peace.
