Red Deer adds one COVID-19 case, down to 119 active

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count is down another 18 in the last day to 119, the lowest total since March 20.

After hitting a record high active caseload of 911 on May 8 (five Saturdays ago), the active caseload has dropped all but two days, including 41.4 per cent over the past seven days.

Recoveries sit at 5,556, an increase of 19 over the last day as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by one to 5,715. The number of deaths in Red Deer linked to COVID-19 is 40, with the last one reported May 31.

In the past week, the city has added just 46 cases, with 130 recoveries, and zero deaths.

According to the province’s interactive vaccination map, 56,264 Red Deer residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, up 524 in the last day. That includes 19,828 people who are fully vaccinated, an increase in the last day of 2,420.

The Central Zone has 381 active cases of Saturday, a drop of 75 in the last 24 hours. There are 27 hospitalizations, down two, and five people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one. The zone has had 161 deaths, with one reported today.

Over the last seven days, Central Zone’s active caseload has gone down 283 from 664.

Hospitalizations have gone from 42 to 27, while the number of patients in ICU at Red Deer Regional went from 11 to five.

PROVINCE

Province-wide, Alberta confirmed 179 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. That’s out of 5,476 test results for a positivity rate of ~3.3 per cent.

Active cases in the province total 3,247, down 282 in the last 24 hours. Recoveries are up to 224,782, with a total of 230,298 confirmed cases in Alberta since the pandemic began.

There are 290 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down six from Friday, including 74 in intensive care, down five.

Four additional deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 2,269. The latest deaths include:

· Date of death: 6/10/2021. A male in his 50s in the Calgary zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 6/10/2021. A female in her 50s in the Central zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 6/10/2021. A male in his 60s in the Calgary zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 6/10/2021. A male in his 50s in the South zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

Alberta has administered 3,336,850 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of June 11. 68.5 per cent of the eligible population (ages 12+) has received at least one dose, while 19.2 cent is fully vaccinated. More vaccination data is here.

In the last week, Alberta has administered 323,295 doses of vaccine for a daily average of 46,185 over the last week. That’s up from the previous seven-day average of 41,838.
