Red Deer down to 655 active COVID cases

Alberta reported another 721 cases Monday out of 7,002 test results for a positivity rate of 10.3 per cent.

There are 21, 288 active cases in the province, down 922 from Sunday.

The number of Albertans hospitalized due to COVID-19 stands at 678, including 188 in intensive care.

Five additional deaths linked to the virus were reported over the past 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 2,148.

There were 274 new variant cases of concern identified over the past 24 hours. Variants now make up 23.3 per cent (4,973) of Alberta’s active cases.

Alberta has delivered 2,189,999 doses of vaccine as of May 15, with 328,414 Albertans now fully immunized with two doses.

The city of Red Deer is down to 655 active cases of COVID-19 as of Monday. That’s down 48 from Sunday and about 29 per cent from the May 8 record high of 911.

The Central Zone has 2,183 active cases as of Monday. There are 64 hospitalizations, including 12 people receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 148 deaths linked to the virus, including one reported in the past day – man in his 80s who passed away May 14.
