Alberta names five-member coal mining committee ahead of consultations
EDMONTON – Alberta’s government wants to know how its people feel about coal mining in the Rocky Mountains.
Energy Minister Sonya Savage says a five-member committee will decide how to gather input on whether Albertans want open-pit coal mining in the mountains and their eastern slopes.
The committee includes former bureaucrats who have worked in the environmental field, an area landowner, and a member of an Indigenous band.
Savage is also promising an online survey, and says there will be separate talks with First Nations.
