It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Geeske ‘Gay’ Murphy of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Monday, March 8, 2021 at the age of 71 years. Gay was born on May 20, 1949 in Nijland, Friesland, Netherlands and raised in Canada. Gay was an extremely caring woman who loved to travel; enjoying her pets over the years and collecting her antiques and ornaments. She enjoyed travelling with her sister, Hilda to Ireland, England and Scotland and seeing Holland with her husband, Jim, travelling across Canada, camping with family and friends in the mountains and spending time with her grandchildren. Gay had a huge love for Christmas and it showed in all of her collectibles and nativity train display. One of her last wishes was to see all of her children together at Christmas, so they made sure it happened. She was smiling in the end, and that is what she would want everyone to do, knowing she is at peace. Gay will be lovingly remembered by her children, Patrick (Angela), Christie (Bill) and Erin (Matt); her four grandchildren, Madison, Liam, Mackynzi and Natalia; her brothers and sisters, Sybren (Donna), Hilda (Harvey), George (Lynne), Wybren (Tannis), Antje (John) and William; her in-laws, Martin (Sharon), Lorenzo (Valerie), Daphne (Leonard) Mary-Ann, and Helen; as well as her numerous other family members and dear friends. Gay was predeceased by her husband, James ‘Jim’; her parents, Hinke and Arend Spijksma; her parents in law, Christine and Noel Murphy; her brother in law, Robert ‘Hob’ (Autumn) Murphy and her infant twin sisters, Hittje and Geeske in the Netherlands. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Gay’s honor may be made directly to her favourite charity, the Ronald McDonald House at www.rmhcalberta.org.
