Call for applications for Red Deer’s Community Recreation Enhancement Grant

Mar 15, 2021 | 1:48 PM

A local program that provides funding to enhance the delivery of community recreation programs, services and events in Red Deer, is once again accepting applications.

Non-profit groups are being invited to apply for the funding through the City of Red Deer’s Community Recreation Enhancement Grant.

Applications are accepted two times per year. Completed applications must be submitted prior to the deadlines of 12:00 p.m. on April 1 or October 1 of the funding year.

In 2020, officials say the City of Red Deer awarded approximately $100,000 to community sport and recreation groups, in order to support and enhance their ability to deliver recreation services and programs to Red Deerians.

The COVID-19 pandemic, however, has had a significant impact on the recreation sector. The City of Red Deer worked with the awarded organizations on grant and reporting requirements in order to allow them room to adapt their project planning and service delivery in light of the pandemic.

A complete listing of 2020 grant recipients is available here.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought, and continues to bring, many challenges and we know our community groups are working tirelessly to adapt their service delivery,” explains Barb McKee, Recreation Superintendent, in a press release. “We are dedicated to supporting them in their development of recreation opportunities in 2021.”
