Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count reaches four-month low

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count has reached a four-month low.

The latest update from the province shows there are 135 active cases in the city as of Thursday, a decrease of 26 over the past 24 hours and the lowest total since 126 active cases were reported for Red Deer on Nov. 22.

There have been 2,708 COVID-19 recoveries, an increase of 35 as the total number of cases attributed to the city rose by nine to 2,874. The number of deaths in Red Deer stemming from COVID-19 remains 31.

Across the province there was another 364 cases of COVID-19 reported Thursday. That’s out of 10,167 tests for a positivity rate of about four per cent.

The number of active cases in Alberta stands at 4,488, an increase of 25 over the past 24 hours.

There are 259 people in hospital because of COVID-19, an increase of five, including 38 in intensive care, up one.

Five additional COVID-19 deaths were also reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 1,933.

As of Thursday, there have been 775 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, an increase of 41 over the past day, including 760 cases of the UK variant. There have been 142 variant cases in Central Zone.

Alberta has administered 317,574 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of March 10.

The Central Zone has 431 active cases as of Thursday, a decrease of nine, and 31 hospitalizations. Four people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 117 COVID-related deaths.
