Red Deer down to 249 active COVID-19 cases

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer continues to decline.

The province’s website shows there are 249 active cases in the city as of Monday, a decrease of 39 over the past 48 hours. It’s the lowest total Red Deer has seen since there were 247 active cases on February 6.

There have been 2,575 recoveries, an increase of 51 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 12 to a total of 2,853. The number of deaths in Red Deer stemming from COVID-19 remains 29.

Alberta Health is reporting 29 active cases linked to the Olymel outbreak as of Monday.

Across the province there was another 278 cases of COVID-19 reported Monday. That’s out of 5,485 tests on for a positivity rate of 5.1 per cent.

The number of active cases across the province stands at 4,633, a decrease of 16 over the past 24 hours.

There are 254 people in hospital as of Monday because of COVID-19, an increase of seven, including 36 in intensive care, down six.

The number of deaths in Alberta from COVID-19 stands at 1,920.

As of Monday, there have been 659 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, an increase of six over the past day, including 646 cases of the UK variant. There have been 126 variant cases in Central Zone.

Alberta has administered 297,692 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of March 7.

The Central Zone has 491 active cases and 31 hospitalizations. Six people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 115 COVID-related deaths.
