Mr. Robert James ‘Bob’ Lafferty went to be with his Lord, at the Rosefield Care Centre, Innisfail, on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the age of 81 years. Bob was born in Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories on April 19, 1939, to James and Margurite Lafferty. He was the seventh child in a family of eleven children. Bob met his wife, Pat (nee McDougall) in Norman Wells, Northwest Territories and they married in Calgary, Alberta in June of 1958. After becoming a father at young age, he produced many happy childhood memories for his children. Bob loved to play hockey, and was active in many other forms of outdoor games. As a Soccer Coach, he helped lead his Team to a Provincial Final. Bob’s youthful exuberance for having fun, and always willing to help, will be remembered by all who knew him. He spent many hours with his children, caring for them and riding horses up on Nose Hill in Calgary, Alberta. He also provided the family with a membership to the Calgary Winter Club; where he participated in both Curling and Bowling Leagues. Bob worked hard to support his family; working in the Calgary Construction Industry for the majority of his life; first as a Lather, then as an Estimator and eventually a Construction Business Owner. In the late 1970’s, Bob joined A.A and maintained his sobriety throughout the rest of his life. In the early 1980’s, he moved to the Spruce View area, allowing him to pursue his love for dog sledding. In Spruce View, Bob worked as a Scaffolder and Carpenter; where he greatly enjoyed puttering in his shop and working on various home renovation projects. He entered the Rosefield Care Center in 2013, due to advancing Alzheimer’s disease. Bob loved the staff and the staff loved him. His happy, gentle, kind and quiet demeanor was with him through his final days, as was his love of music and singing. We would like to thank all of the staff, who have cared for him over the last eight years. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-two years, Pat Lafferty, his children, Ken (Sharlene), Karen (Kevin) Meldrum, Jeff (Joanne) and his adopted nephews, Timothy and Gene; his grandchildren, Kathleen (Clint) Meldrum, Gennifer Meldrum and Steven (Jill) Meldrum; Kayla (Adam) Reid, Aimee (Fraser) Lafferty, Aaron (Samantha) Lafferty; Wendy (Brandon) Lafferty and Kyla Lafferty; and his four great grandchildren, Juniper, Brooklyn, Clara and Liliana. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Peter and his sisters, Jane, Marie, Veryl (Dee Dee), Edith Rose (Pye); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Private Family Service will be held at the Jesuit Martyrs Catholic Church, Evergreen, Alberta; which will be recorded and available for viewing on the Parish website at www.smprmh.ca. A Public Memorial Service will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Bob’s honor may be made directly to the Rosefield Care Centre, 5023 – 42 Street, Innisfail, Alberta, T4G 1K2.
