Blackfalds municipal census to be conducted next month

Feb 22, 2021 | 3:57 PM

After a three-year hiatus, a municipal census will be held this year in the town of Blackfalds.

The online census starts on March 1 and door-to-door visits with official census enumerators will take place from Mar. 15 – 31.

Town officials say residents will receive a letter with their exclusive Census PIN (Personal Identification Number) by the end of February. This unique and secure PIN is specific to Blackfalds addresses and is required to complete the census online.

Residents who complete their census online by Mar. 15 will be added to a draw for a chance to win a brand-new tablet, valued at $1,000.

Enumerators will visit residents between March 15 and March 30 who have not completed the census online. Authorized by the Town, enumerators are responsible for confidential collection and will be wearing a Town of Blackfalds photo identification badge along with logo-branded vests.

Officials add that enumerators will be taking all COVID-19 precautions necessary to protect themselves and residents. Physical distancing, face coverings, masks, and limited interaction is expected to allow staff to acquire information safely and quickly.

With multiple temporary positions needing to be filled, Blackfalds residents interested in becoming an enumerator are encouraged to visit blackfalds.com/careers for details.

By doing a census, officials say the municipality can use the information to assist in planning for the community’s needs such as future roads, the addition and location of schools, parks, utilities, protective, fire, and other services.

Officials further note, there is also a federal census during the month of May.

Starting May 3, Blackfalds residents can complete their census questionnaire online on the Government of Canada’s website.
