Posted Dec 28, 2020 | 3:28 PM
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Huntley ‘Nip’ Hugh Baird of Red Deer, Alberta, at Extendicare, Michener Hill, Red Deer on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the age of 94 years. Nip was born on September 6, 1926, the youngest of five children of Hugh and Margaret Baird. He married the love of his life, Margaret Lowes in 1948; and they farmed in McAuley, Manitoba, before moving to Red Deer, Alberta in 1966. Nip was an avid baseball player, hockey player and loved to curl, in his younger days. Both Marg and Nip continued curling after moving to Red Deer, and Nip curled until he was 79. Nip loved camping, and after retiring, he and Marg continued camping at their permanent lots at Kountry Air and Sunset Campgrounds. His heart was always on the farm though; and he loved going to the Pratt’s to help with seeding and harvest. Nip will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed for his jokes and storytelling to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and numerous friends and family members. Nip will be lovingly remembered by his wife of seventy-two years, Margaret; his four children, Garry (Joyce), Larry (Connie), Heather (Lorne) and Dwight (Cherry); his nine grandchildren and his fourteen great grandchildren. Nip was predeceased by his parents and all four of his siblings. A Service will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Nip’s honor may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
