It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Albert Leo ‘Al’ Fuchs at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer, Alberta, on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the age of 90 years. Albert was born in Wimborne, Alberta on September 16, 1930. He was the second child of five siblings born to John and Martha Fuchs. Albert grew up on a farm and was given many responsibilities. His memory of this time never failed him, and he loved sharing stories of family life, adventures and antics. As a young man, Albert attended North American Baptist College in Edmonton; where he played the guitar and violin, and sang in a quartet. Albert pursued many different ventures in life. He drove truck in his early years, travelling across Canada and the US. Then on June 8, 1955, he married his sweetheart, Lois Neufeld and, early in their marriage, they followed Albert’s work around western Canada. Eventually, Albert and his brother, Johnnie, opened a Garage and Gas Station in Torrington. As more children arrived, Albert and Lois decided to build their home and settle in Red Deer. Albert continued trucking and operated his “Al’s Transport” business for many years. Deciding on a career change, Albert went into Real Estate and became Block Brothers’ Top Salesman for many years in a row, winning several trips to Hawaii, as a result. In time, Al opened his own office, M & F Town & Country Realty. Following retirement from Real Estate, Albert drove the Jitney Bus at Michener Centre, which he really enjoyed. In his early years, Albert excelled at baseball, horseshoe and boxing. Throughout his life, he enjoyed trips out west hunting, fishing and camping. He was a skilled mechanic and loved putzing in his garage, where he had every tool known to man. In later years, he loved sharing a cup of coffee and conversation at Tim Hortons. Albert was devoted to God, family and friends. He was a man of integrity; who worked hard, and he valued honesty and a job well done. He was strong in character and body, and lived independently till the end. Albert will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sharon Mkisi, Robert Fuchs (Annamarie), Denise Pfeifle (Randy); his grandchildren, Mike Sheffield (Marjona), Jessica Pfeifle, Rachael Strome (Dawson), Bronwyn Pfeifle and his great grandchildren, Umed and Mijgona. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Johnnie Fuchs (Kathleen), his sister, Edna Falat (Emry) and his brother-in-law, Amos Neufeld. He has been reunited with his wife, Lois, a daughter, Darlene Sonnenberg, his parents, John and Martha, a brother, Rueben and a sister, Irene.
