It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Christianne ‘Chris’ Marie-Anne Plourde-
Vine, after a long and hard fought battle with diabetes, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on
Friday, October 2, 2020 at the age of 68 years. Chris was born on August 23, 1952 in Kapuskasing,
Ontario, to Valmont and Jacqueline Plourde, also raised by her step-father, Alphonse Dion. She spent
her childhood in Kapuskasing and graduated from Kapuskasing District High School, in 1970. Chris
travelled across Canada as a country singer, in her youth; where her love of travel and singing was
established. Some of her original songs were professionally recorded in studio. Later, she travelled all
over, becoming friends with anyone, and everyone, she met. Having obtained her Bachelor’s Degree
from the University of Calgary, she returned to Northern Ontario; where she was a dedicated teacher for
over twenty years at St. Patrick School in Kapuskasing, and École Publique Renaissance in Timmins,
eventually retiring from her last role as Présidente, AEFO Nord-Est Publique. Everything Chris
accomplished in her career, and in her life, was done with passion and conviction. She enjoyed
gardening, crocheting, knitting, reading, shopping and the Toronto Maple Leafs. She was always
fighting for a cause, fundraising, and debating politics. She always lit up anytime the grandkids visited.
Chris will be lovingly remembered by her husband of eighteen years, Tom Vine of Red Deer, Alberta;
her son, Jeff (Kelly) Plourde of Calgary, Alberta; her stepdaughter, Cindy (Ken) Pye of Timmins,
Ontario and her grandchildren, Jonathan, Jennifer, Emmett, Jacob and Gabriel. Chris will also be sadly
missed by her brother, Marc Dion (niece Molly Mermaid) of Kingston, Ontario; Jeanne Franche (Fred
and Amy) of Limoges, Ontario as well as numerous other family members and dear friends. A
Celebration of Chris’s Life will be held at Remi Lake in July 2021; her favourite place to spend
summers. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. If
desired, Memorial Donations in Chris’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Regional Health
Foundation at www.rdrhfoundation.com. Condolences may be sent or viewed at
