Boy injured after being struck by vehicle in east Red Deer
Red Deer RCMP said Friday that a ticket given to a driver when a male youth on a bicycle was struck Wednesday morning will be withdrawn.
It was about 8:30 a.m. that morning on 22 Street near Vanier Drive when the boy was hit. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for evaluation.
Originally, the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was ticketed for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. However, Sgt. Mike Zufferli says it is being rescinded because the youth was riding his bike through the crosswalk and did not have the right of way.
The Traffic Safety Act defines a pedestrian as a person who is on foot, or a person in or on a mobility aid.
