It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Irene Goruk (nee Martyniuk) of Red Deer, Alberta, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at the age of 78 years. Nancy was born on April 3, 1942 in Smoky Lake, Alberta. She grew up on the family homestead in Barich, Alberta, and eventually moved to Edmonton. While she was in Edmonton, she met her husband, Andy and they were married November 4, 1961 in Bellis, Alberta. They had three children, two sons and a daughter and moved to Red Deer in 1978. Nancy was a member of the Red Deer Oil Wives for many years and enjoyed golfing and curling. She owned her own Beauty Salon in Red Deer, and then sold it when it came time for her and Andy to travel the world. Their trips included Greece, Italy, Mexico, China, Japan, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii, Ukraine, Nashville, Las Vegas, Florida and Phoenix. She cared for Andy at home, after he suffered a stroke, until his passing; with a strength and determination to make the best of every day, no matter the circumstances. While caring for Andy, she worked at the Great Canadian Bagel, until its closing. Nancy will always be remembered for having strength beyond compare, a selfless integrity, her timeless generosity and the greatest sense of humor. Her biggest joys always came from spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; teaching them how to make perogies or cabbage rolls, telling a good joke, and having a good laugh. She was always up for hosting a great party for family and friends. She loved gardening, golfing, and still worked full time, for the past fifteen years at the Cash Casino, until just before her passing. Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her son, Ken (Marie), her son, Jim (Ellen), and her daughter, Patti (Geoff) all of Red Deer, Alberta; her seven grandchildren; and her six great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her two sisters, Martha and Zoria; her three brothers, Norman, Ed and Wayne; her brothers-in-law, her sisters-in-law, and numerous other family members and dear friends. Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Goruk; her parents, Rose and Steve Martyniuk; and her brothers, Henry and Robert. Due to the current pandemic, a Private Family Celebration of Life will be held. A Live Streaming of the Life Celebration will be available for all at www.parklandfuneralhome.com on Saturday, September 19, 2020 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
