New Red Deer Transit routes, schedule start Sunday

Red Deer Transit is officially launching its new routes and schedule this weekend.

Officials say the new network offers service that is more direct and provides improved connections throughout the city.

“We have worked hard, alongside the community, to redefine our transit service and are very excited to officially launch the new routes this Sunday,” said George Penny, Red Deer Transit Manager. “We want our citizens to continue to take an active role in shaping the new transit service as it moves forward by giving the service a try, and if there are any issues, letting us know via the online survey or by calling our customer service.”

An online public survey is available at reddeer.ca/cityinmotion to collect ongoing feedback from riders. Printed surveys, schedules and maps are available at Sorensen Station.

“The route realignment features a new Gaetz Avenue Rapid Bus, which will run the full length of the Gaetz Avenue corridor, new Core routes connecting the highest ridership, stops and destinations, and commuter routes,” said Penny. “We have also added two new transit hubs which will provide connection points in the north and south end, reducing the need for riders to transfer downtown.”

The new transit hubs can be found at Bower Place (along Bennett Street and Gaetz Avenue) and Kingston Drive (west of Gaetz Avenue). Action Bus service also continues to be available to meet different passenger needs. Red Deer Transit will continue to offer School Service to local school boards and Transit Management will continue to work with the school boards to support their September openings and to recognize any opportunities to align the service with the new network routes.

The city says new transit routes will launch at the current service level, with hours of service similar to what has been offered throughout COVID-19. They say the new network enables the system to increase the frequencies of key routes serving higher ridership areas and times. As the impacts of the pandemic lessen and demand for transit increases, officials say Red Deer’s new transit network will offer additional frequency and longer hours of service.

The new schedules, detailed route maps showing stops, and online feedback survey are now available at www.reddeer.ca/cityinmotion. Customers can also call at 403-342-8225 or email Transit@reddeer.ca to help plan their trip.

City officials are also reminding riders that masks are mandatory on Red Deer Transit effective August 31.
