Two sent to hospital following separate collisions in Red Deer County

Investigations are underway into the causes of two separate collisions in Red Deer County on Monday.

The first happened shortly before noon when STARS was dispatched to a location along Range Road 253 for reports of a pedestrian versus vehicle collision.

STARS officials say a male patient in his thirties was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for assessment and remained there instead of being flown to hospital in Edmonton.

The second incident happened shortly before 4:00 p.m. when

STARS was dispatched to Highway 590 and Range Road 262 southwest of Pine Lake.

Officials say a male patient in his twenties was flown to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary for treatment, but there’s no further word on his condition.

The initial RCMP investigation indicates that a 2001 Dodge Ram was hit from behind by a 2002 Dodge Caravan as both were travelling eastbound on Highway 590.

Police say the driver of the Caravan, a 35-year-old male from Calgary, sustained serious injuries and was transported by STARS to hospital.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 55-year-old male from Red Deer County, sustained minor injuries.
