Notley questions Alberta’s parks plan
EDMONTON- Alberta’s Opposition leader is calling out the province’s environment minister for hypocrisy because of his refusal to consult the public over sweeping plans to shrink the province’s parks system.
Rachel Notley says Jason Nixon accused her government of trying to ram through a park in the Alberta foothills before the last election.
She says Nixon said over and over the then-New Democrat government was stifling public input.
Yet documents released this week through Freedom of Information legislation revealed that Nixon’s office specifically ruled out consulting the public over plans that could see 20 parks completely or partly closed and another 164 handed off to outside managers.
