Edith Taylor (Kauffman)
Posted Jun 24, 2020 | 4:32 PM
Edith was born in a sod house in Bloomfield, Montana. She was the middle child in a family of 13 children. Because she lived though the Great Depression and some very hard times, Edith was always thankful and appreciative of every thing she had in her life.
Edith married Howard Taylor on November 22, 1939 in Lebanon, Oregon. They had 5 children whom she was very proud of. A year after they married, the couple moved to a farm just outside of Chigwell, Alberta. After a few years, they moved back to Oregon in 1952, living near Corvallis & Madras. The family returned to the farm in Alberta in 1959. Upon retiring, the farm was sold and they moved into Clive.
During the retirement years, she and Howard traveled during the winter months. Edith was very creative and enjoyed all kinds of needle arts; knitting or crocheting and sewing for the grandchildren; as well as making beautiful hand-stitched quilts. Edith was a diligent letter writer and probably wrote hundreds of letters in her lifetime to family and friends all over the US and Australia. She loved to fish, and passed the love of the sport onto her children and grandchildren. She always had a big garden, and her green thumb could grow almost anything, and nothing went to waste! Edith loved playing cards, Scrabble, Up-word, and Cribbage. She was very competitive, and always added up her own score and made sure you added up yours correctly too!
Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard Taylor, her parents Amanda and Samuel Kauffman, son-in-law Mel Fisher, grandson Joe Taylor; as well as 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
Edith is survived by her daughters, Pauline Fisher and Janice (Bill) Johnson; her sons, Tom (Sharon), Dan (Brenda) and Dave (Sandy); 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Paula & Angie.
