Visitors will see some changes

Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery reopening July 2

Jun 24, 2020 | 10:47 AM

It has been a long wait, but the Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery (MAG) is ready to re-open to the public.

The MAG will open on Thursday, July 2 and will have reduced daily hours 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday.

In a release, the MAG says visitors can expect to see some changes to their operations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing public health measures.

“Our team has made many changes including enhanced cleaning protocols, putting out hand sanitizing stations, and posting helpful signage because the safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority,” they say. “There is one-way traffic flow, reduced visitor capacity, and social distancing measures in effect throughout the museum.”

The biggest the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery is making is the move to ticketed admission to ensure no more than 50 visitors are in the facility at a time to help maintain social distancing. Free timed-entry tickets can be booked in advance online at www.reddeermuseum.com.

Visitors can enjoy a new temporary art exhibit, plus some display changes and a community exhibit in Remarkable Red Deer: Stories from the Heart of the Parkland.

The exhibition Shore Figures: Sylvan Lake by Benalto artist Dave More will be on display from July 2 to September 5. The Community Wall in Remarkable Red Deer will display the community-focused exhibit COVID-19: Unprecedented Times, on display starting July 2.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our visitors back into the building,” says Lorna Johnson, MAG Executive Director. “We have taken the preventive precautions recommended by AHS to keep visitors and staff safe. We hope you will enjoy some of the changes we have made to our permanent exhibit, as well as the Shore Figures: Sylvan Lake paintings by Dave More. We plan to resume more of our regular programs in September. Until then, please check out our blog and Facebook posts. We hope to see you soon.”
