AHS issues second illegal drug warning after 16 deaths

EDMONTON- Alberta Health Services is issuing a second warning about the dangers of illegal drugs, particularly carfentanil.

AHS states that in the last week of May and first week of June, there were 16 deaths where carfentanil was identified in a preliminary analysis.

Fourteen of those cases were in Edmonton Zone and two were north of Edmonton.

It’s the second warning within two weeks as AHS says toxicology tests indicate a stronger illegal drug is circulating.
