Celebrating the Life of Jerry Howton
Alfred “Jerry” Howton of Red Deer, AB passed away in Edmonton on Friday, June 5, 2020 at the age of 51 years. He is survived by parents Jack & Violet, sister Christina (Paul) spouse Lorna, and his children Kaylie (Cam) Logan (Amber) Jordan (Madison) Joshua (Melesha) Melanie (Chris) Tori (Kody) and grandkids Kaiden, Keira, Carter, Olivia, and Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends. Jerrys journey began on Friday July 19, 1968 in Edmonton Alberta with his parents Jack and Violet Howton. Jerry and his two-year younger sister Christina were chosen and shared a wonderful upbringing and extraordinary bond of love and laughter as a family. They grew up in Kelowna, BC and went to Lakeview Heights Elementary and Mount Boucherie High School. Jerry was the one who ran around the neighborhood meeting all the neighbors and welcoming all our friends to The Howton house to play in the swimming pool and games room. Jerry had a big heart for connecting with others and his boisterous personality kept those around him constantly laughing. He met his future wife Melanie Toner at Peachland Beach at the age of 16 and they welcomed their first child Kaylie a month before his 18th birthday in 1986. They married in 1987 and welcomed their son Logan in 1988, and their youngest son Jordan in 1990. They eventually made their way from Kelowna to Red Deer as he proudly followed in his father’s footsteps becoming a journeyman floor layer and then a sales professional with Action Flooring & Design. He was close to his Grandma Pearl, aunties, uncles and cousins in Kelowna and Edmonton and his nickname was JerBear. Jerry met the love of his life; Lorna Alexander in February 2011 and their first date was on Valentine’s Day. He welcomed her three children Josh, Melanie, and Tori as his own. He also had a love of animals and welcomed his fur babies, MeowMeow and Baron into their family. He was an amazing Papa to his grandkids Kaiden, Keira, Carter and Olivia and was excited as he has two new grandbabies on the way. Jerry and Lorna shared many loves including country music, romantic dates, dressing up for Halloween, spending time with friends and taking care of their blended and extended family. Lorna and Jerry’s love of family included his ex-wife Melanie and her partner Kevin, joining in family celebrations and camping together with many friends. He loved traveling and he and Lorna went to Scotland, Cuba, Las Vegas and Mexico, Toronto, Vancouver and made frequent trips to Kelowna and to Jack and Violets summer cabin on Otter Lake, in the Kootenays. He was a “glamper” and traveled with his big truck, trailer, quads and cooked up the best food in his full gourmet outdoor kitchen. Jerry’s personality and voice filled the room and he would have you laughing within the first few minutes of meeting him and would keep you laughing the whole time you knew him. His new journey began on Friday, June 5, 2020 just shy of his 52nd birthday. Jerry is loved beyond words and is missed beyond measure.
