Save On Foods teams up with Red Deer food bank to support community

Jun 12, 2020 | 4:23 PM

Red Deer Food Bank will be among food banks across the country that stand to benefit from a national campaign launched by Save On Foods this week.

The Share it Forward campaign runs June 11-17, and will see 50 per cent of net proceeds from the purchase of Western Family products, donated to local food banks – up to a maximum of $300,000.

Alice Kolisnyk, Deputy Director with Red Deer Food Bank Society, feels the campaign will be a tremendous help for both the food bank and the community.

“Save On Foods is always so community minded and when we have stores like this, it makes our job a lot easier,” she exclaims.

“Our demand is starting to go up again, so the help that we’re looking for right now is those non-perishable food donations,” she suggests. “Typical things like the rice, the pasta, peanut butter, canned soups, canned dinners and juice boxes. Anything that you had for supper last night that came in a can or a box, we’ll take it as a donation at the food bank.”

Kolisnyk admits the community has shown strong support for the organization during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve got lots of food in stock and we’re keeping up with the demand,” she adds gratefully. “Any support from the community and our local Save On Foods locations would be greatly appreciated.”
