A 38-year-old man faces charges after local Mounties seized a loaded firearm and some methamphetamine last week in Innisfail.

On the morning of May 8, Sylvan Lake RCMP received a call from the Red Deer County Patrol regarding a vehicle with a male sleeping behind the wheel near the boundary of Innisfail and Sylvan Lake detachment areas. Mounties say the County Peace Officer had also observed a firearm in the back seat.

As RCMP began to converge on the area the vehicle took off, Mounties say in a release. Red Deer Police Dog Service, GIS members from Innisfail and Sylvan Lake as well as the K Division Member Operational Support Service tracked the suspect into Innisfail where an arrest was made.

Police seized a sawed-off SKS rifle loaded with 32 rounds of ammunition and a quarter ounce of methamphetamine out of the vehicle.
