Centrefest cancelled for 2020

Red Deer’s largest annual street performers’ festival is one of the latest events to be cancelled due to the COVIFD-19 pandemic.

Officials with Centrefest announced this week that their event scheduled for July 24-26 will not be going ahead.

“The health and safety of our visitors, volunteers, vendors, and performers is of utmost importance, and we honour these rules and regulations as the world continues to heal,” organizers say in a Facebook post, “we wish you a safe and healthy summer with your families; making new memories and creating new traditions. We look forward to sharing our festival with you again in 2021.”

Provincial health officials have said restrictions banning mass gatherings of more than 15 people will be in effect through summer.

Westerner Days announced Friday that its 2020 event is also cancelled as a result of the restrictions, as are the Calgary Stampede and K-Days in Edmonton.
