Gloria Whipple-Johnson

It is with great sadness that the family of Gloria Whipple-Johnson announce her passing in Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the age of 86 years. Gloria was born to parents, Edvard and Bess Bloomquist on March 17, 1934 in Mattoon, Illinois. She graduated from Nursing School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1955, and married Bill Whipple that same year. Bill and Gloria, along with their seven daughters, then immigrated to Alberta in 1971. She had a twenty-five year nursing career, and was a business owner as well. Gloria enjoyed gardening, baking, camping, fishing, the beauty of Alberta, and all of nature. She was a true activist and supported many causes over the years. Gloria will be deeply missed by her daughters, Christina (Doug) Burren of Delburne, Alberta, Denise Oberst (Gene Roach) of Red Deer, Alberta, Elizabeth Whipple of Nordegg, Alberta, Angela Duffin of Red Deer, Alberta, Patrice James (Brian) of Rapid City, South Dakota and Dr. Joy Whipple (Dr. Tom Denker) of Whitefish, Montana; along with fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa in June 2012, and the father of her children, and best friend, Bill, January 2020. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the Staff on Unit 32, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for their compassionate care.
