Woody’s RV World Marathon cancelled
Officials with the Woody’s RV World Marathon have announced the cancellation of this year’s race.
“The 2020 Woody’s RV Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K Road Race has been cancelled due to increasing concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus,” say race directors, in a news release. “This has been taken in conjunction with the recent directive from Alberta Health Services to limit and prohibit large public gatherings. The health and safety of our runners, volunteers, spectators, vendors, sponsors, and the public at large, is our highest priority.”
The organizing committee is a non-profit organization called the Red Deer Marathon Society and is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by countless other volunteers.
“We all share in the disappointment that this event will not take place this year,” the statement continues. “We take our responsibility of delivering a first-class race experience very seriously, and know first-hand the effort, time and commitment that goes into preparing for this event. While our non-profit is unable to offer refunds since a large portion of the registration funds have already been spent on our operations, we are doing what we can to respond to this unprecedented situation.”
