AMBHL Division Final

Bantam AAA Rebels sweep into round three league playoffs

The Bantam AAA Red Deer Rebels are moving on to the third round of playoffs after sweeping their opponents in each of the first two rounds.

They will meet the Calgary Flames in the AMBHL South Final, a team that they faced three times this season.

“It was a solid effort throughout our lineup,” said head coach Justin Jarmolicz. “Everybody is playing playoff hockey and these kids, they’re all bought in. Their defensive effort has been really good.”

The Rebels faced the Lethbridge Golden Hawks in the first round, not allowing a goal and winning 6-0 and 4-0 to advance to the second round.

Their next opponent was the Medicine Hat Southeast Tigers, who faced a similar fate. Red Deer beat them 8-2 in game one and 5-2 in game two to win the series.

“It sets a tone when you come out and get going on a team like that early,” says Jarmolicz. “In those three-game series, it’s hard to win the series when you lose the first game. You always want to come out firing on the first one.”

Mavry Fluet and Brock Lott have proved to be an outstanding goalie duo for Red Deer with each having a .940 save percentage in the post-season.

“Both of these kids have been incredible for us all season long. When a team does get an opportunity and they don’t score, that really deflates them because they know they’re not going to get many opportunities again. Our two goaltenders have done an outstanding job,” said Jarmolicz.

With the Flames sitting on the horizon for the Rebels, Jarmolicz said that it is business as usual heading into the series. In three meetings between the two teams this year, Red Deer has won the previous two.

“They’re a lot like us. They work hard and they play the game the right way. It’s going to be a great series,” Jarmolicz noted. “We’ve been successful all season doing it the way we’ve been doing.”

Jarmolicz credited a lot of his team’s success this season due to the unwavering support felt all year.

“Thanks to all the families, the parents and all the fans for their support. It’s been great and we’re looking forward to seeing everybody in this South Final.”

Game one of the series goes Friday at Servus Arena at 7:45 p.m.
