HONOURING TRADESPEOPLE

Trades Hall of Fame to honour visionary Albertans

Feb 14, 2020 | 8:01 AM

EDMONTON- Nominations for the first inductees to the new Alberta Trades Hall of Fame opened on February 13.

Albertans are encouraged to consider nominating someone who has demonstrated extraordinary dedication and commitment to their trade and to apprenticeship and industry training.

“We need to send the message that trades make a huge contribution to our prosperity. Our province has literally been built by brilliant tradespeople and it is past time that we begin to honour their commitment to excellence. It’s also critical that we send a message to young Albertans that a trade certificate has every bit as much value as a university degree.”

Jason Kenney, Premier

“The skilled trades are a foundational part of Alberta’s economy. I am pleased to open nominations for the first-ever Alberta Trades Hall of Fame. These awards will help celebrate the skilled trades professions and honour Albertans who work everyday to support the growth and success of skilled trades and apprenticeship across the province.”

Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Advanced Education

The Alberta Trades Hall of Fame is part of the government’s Skills for Jobs agenda, which includes a commitment of more than $20 million to support and expand skilled jobs and apprenticeship education.

Nominations can come from any Albertan:

Someone in industry, education, an apprentice or someone who simply knows a person who should be recognized for their contributions to the skilled trades and apprenticeship education.

Nomination forms and details can be found at Alberta Trades Hall of Fame.
