Mrs. Helen Edith Hennig of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the age of 90 years. Helen was born on February 21, 1929 in Edmonton, Alberta, to Minnie and Herbert Bergmann. She graduated as a nurse in 1950. Helen married Arnold Hennig in 1951. They moved to Beaverlodge, Alberta in 1954 and lived there, until after Arnold’s retirement, when they moved to Red Deer, Alberta. Helen was actively involved with the Royal Canadian Legion and the I.O.D.E. While raising three children, she worked occasionally as a nurse; especially when the hospital was short staffed, and needed a nurse to accompany a patient being transferred to Edmonton. When Beaverlodge opened a swimming pool as a Centennial project in 1967, Helen was the Head Lifeguard and Pool Manager, for a few years. She also volunteered at the Beaverlodge Library and later was hired as the Head Librarian. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Arnold; her three daughters, Sharon Hennig of Aurora, Ontario, Donna Hennig (Jim Hall) of Red Deer, Alberta and Laura Hennig (Cecil Mark) of Edmonton, Alberta; her grandchildren, Sam Clarke (Sarah), Bethan Clarke, Sean McAndrews (Amber) and Max Hall and her great grandchildren, Addison, Emma and Georgia McAndrews, and Hannah Clarke. If desired, in place of flowers, Memorial Donations in Helen’s honor may be made directly to a Charity of the donor’s choice.
