House fire in Glendale neighbourhood of Calgary results in one death

CALGARY – The Calgary Fire Department says a person has died in hospital after being pulled from a burning home in the city’s Glendale neighbourhood.

A release from the department says fire crews were called to a residence on Kelwood Place Friday around 11 p.m. and were met by heavy smoke and flames pouring from the rear of the single storey structure.

The release says firefighters entered the home, removed a person and began resuscitation efforts before the victim was rushed to hospital where they later died from fire-related injuries.

Firefighters eventually had to exit the home due to a main floor collapse and continued battling the blaze from the outside.

There were no reports of any other injuries, and the name of the deceased was not immediately released.

Fire crews, including a fire Investigator, were to remain on scene overnight to continue mopping up and to determine the cause of the fire.
