Maskwacis RCMP arrest wanted man, weapons seized

MASKWACIS- A 28-year-old man has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting a peace officer and other related charges following a difficult arrest in the Samson Townsite.

Two members of the Maskwacis RCMP Community Response Unit (CRU) were on patrol in the early afternoon on Wednesday, December 4, when they spotted Donovan Rain who was wanted for multiple armed robberies.

When police attempted to stop and make an arrest the suspect entered the back seat of a nearby vehicle, occupied by two witnesses, and braced himself inside, denying that he was Donovan Rain.

Mounties attempted to remove the suspect from the vehicle when they noticed a metal object concealed in the front of his clothing.

Additional RCMP members were called to the scene and were able to remove Rain from the vehicle without injury.

The occupants of the vehicle were not harmed during the incident.

Two machetes were located strapped to the front of Rain’s body.

He appears in Wetaskiwin court December 10.
