It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Thérèse Josephine Megill in Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the age of 87 years. Thérèse was born in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan on December 1, 1930 to Honoré and Marie-Yvonne Gallais. She left home to finish her High School in Prud’homme, Saskatchewan and to attend Filles de la Providence at the age of 16. Over the years, she taught in numerous locations throughout Saskatchewan, teaching different subjects from Grades 3 to 12. Her preferred subject to teach was always English and she mentioned several times that teaching math was always her challenge; as she feared the students were going to teach her a thing or two about math. Thérèse married Robert (Brian) Megill on December 6, 1980 in Calgary and resided in several different locations in Alberta, before moving to Creston, British Columbia upon Thérèse’s retirement. She and Brian had moved to Medicine Hat, when Brian took ill and unfortunately passed away on December 19, 2006. Thérèse moved to Lethbridge and then to Red Deer in 2000, where she resided until her passing. She was always very active in the Catholic Parish in all capacities, at every location she resided. She took great pleasure in volunteering at the parish and participating in all church activities. She was greatly admired and appreciated by all. Thérèse enjoyed her reading and never ceased to amaze, at her ability to recall past books, remember birthdates and family details, with incredible accuracy. She also deeply loved her pets and thoroughly enjoyed her visits to the dog park, where she would happily talk to any and all dog owners. Thérèse will lovingly be remembered by sisters, Agnès Wilkinson of Edam, Saskatchewan, Anne Sitter of Winnipeg, and brother, Francois (Marie) Gallays of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Thérèse was predeceased by her parents, Honoré and Marie-Yvonne Gallais; brothers, Maurice, Hubert and Bruce Gallais and sisters, Marie Gallais, Céline Bellanger, Gertrude McLeod, Cécile Levangie and Hélène Williams. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Len Cadieux Celebrant.
