Annie Jenny Giebelhaus (nee Blair) of Red Deer was called Home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the age of 88 years, the last of all her siblings. Annie was born in Evansburg, Alberta in 1930 to parents, Alex and Pearl Drongal. She relocated to Red Deer in 1954, where she worked in the Meat Department at the Jenkins Grocery Store, and then as the only woman to work on the “kill floor” at Intercontinental Packers. It was during this time that she met and married Roy Giebelhaus who passed away suddenly October 26, 1976. Annie retired shortly after Roy’s passing and focused on family and friends, enjoying spending time with them. She really enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage with them (even though she didn’t appreciate losing). She spent solitary time knitting baby outfits for family additions, which she took great pride in how well they were appreciated. In October of 2015, Annie left her home of 40 years in West Park and moved into the Redwoods Retirement Residence (Hamlets of Deer Park), an Independent Living Facility, where she enjoyed the company of other seniors, continuing to play cards and knit. She also explored new things like painting (being real proud of a piece she completed). Family and friends continued to enjoy the time spent and memories made from visiting Annie/Mom/Grandma/Grannie until her passing…You are and will be missed; though we celebrate your going home. Annie will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Allan (Fiona White) and Don (Sherry) Blair, all of Red Deer, Alberta; her daughter, Linda (Bernie) Hornby of Fox Creek, Alberta; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roy Giebelhaus; twin sister Katherine ‘Kay’ Ostertag, sister Mary Werenka; and her brothers, Alex Paulyn and Mike Drongal. A Private Family Service is being held. If desired, Memorial Donations in Annie’s honour may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke at www.heartandstroke.com or to S.T.A.R.S. at www.stars.ca. Arrangements in care of PARKLAND FUNERAL HOME (Red Deer).
