It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Art. He passed away peacefully in Red Deer hospital on the morning of Jan. 21, 2019 at the age of 81 years.
Art was born in Morden, Manitoba, grew up in Roseisle, Manitoba, then started his career as a welder and worked on the TransCanada Pipeline, which took him to many other places until he finally settled in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Art finished his remaining welding years working on the big drag lines and power plants, and then eventually retired at the age of 52.
Once retired, the family, along with their horses, moved to Barrhead, Alberta to join many of his other dear brothers and sisters. Art enjoyed many years there, growing his hobby farm, camping, quadding, playing his guitar and, most importantly, sharing his faith in the Lord with so many friends daily, often over a coffee.
After 30 years in Barrhead, Art and his wife Alice decided on one last move to Red Deer to live out his final days with his son, daughter and precious grandchildren.
Art is survived by his wife Alice; son Alan (Allison); son Dale (Angela); daughter Joy (Reg); grandchildren Chanelle (Brandon), Landon (Kim), Lauren, Layla, Brennan (Taylor), Jennae (Gage) and Brooklynn; great-grandchildren Bailey and Charlotte; brothers Ed, Bill (Betty), Cornelius (Dorothy), Henry (Shelley) and Deidrich (Connie); sisters Tina, Mary (Fred), Margaret (Ron), Gertie (Nick) and Netty (Eric), along with numerous family and friends. He was predeceased by his grandson Ashton; father John; mother Lena; brothers John and Abe; and sisters Susan and Helen.
A celebration of Art’s life will be held at Living Stones Church, 2020 – 40th Ave, Red Deer, AB on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, www.heartandstroke.ca.
Condolences for Art’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Arrangements in care of Meaningful Memorials Funeral Service, serving Red Deer and all of Central Alberta, 587-876-4944.
