It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Donald Kenneth Cassidy at the age of 87 on March 28, 2019 in Red Deer, Alberta.
Don was born in 1931. He was predeceased by his father Kenneth Donald Cassidy and his mother Audrey Cassidy (Turner), an infant sister, an infant brother, daughter Rhonda, sister Verda, and two step-daughters, Penny and Cindy.
Don was a loving father, brother, son, uncle, grandpa, great-grandpa, friend, colleague, and husband. Don met Marj, the love of his life, in 1978 through a mutual friend. They spent a wonderful 41 years together filled with laughter, love, and lots of fun. Marj and Don were best friends and soulmates.
Don is survived by his wife and partner in crime, Marj, his seven children, five stepchildren, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother and sister, many close family friends, and colleagues.
Don began his career early at the age of eight, helping his dad around the farm, and spent many wonderful years growing up in rural Alberta. He began driving truck right out of school. With a few careers in between, he finished his career as a locksmith before his retirement.
Don lived a full life. He was always smiling, and he was a wonderful person to be around. Some of his most treasured moments included campouts, bluegrass music, and some community jam sessions mixed into these passions. He loved to dance and loved old-time and pattern dancing, playing horseshoes, woodworking, and he would never turn down a good game of lawn darts.
Don was an incredibly loveable man. He had a smile that would warm your heart and he had an engaging and open mind that would make him an easy person to talk to and to be around. Don always loved a good visit with friends and family, and always enjoyed good conversations where he would learn and grow. Don was a good man, a family man, and a trusting friend.
In lieu of flowers, Don would like donations to be made to the Central Alberta Humane Society or to an organization of their choice.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held Sunday, April 14 from 1-3 pm at Pioneer Lodge, 4324 – 46A Avenue, Red Deer.
