Mrs. Maria Lucienne Juliette Wyten passed away quietly at her home on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 at the age of 89 years. Maria was born in Amiens, France and lived there until she was ten years old. She then lived and grew up in Holland, until she met and married the love of her life, William “Bill” Wyten, on July 25, 1957. This young couple bravely immigrated to Canada following their wedding. Bill and Maria lived in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Edmonton, and finally settled in Red Deer, for the rest of their lives. During her life’s journey, Maria loved flower gardening, talking to and feeding birds and squirrels, travelling, making delicious desserts, and playing tennis. She won many medals Provincially and Nationally, competing in tennis with her partners. Maria was awarded the Senior Female Athlete of the Year in 2009, and 2011, from the Red Deer Sports Council. Maria was predeceased by her husband, Bill in 2013, after fifty-six years of marriage. Well-deserved gratitude is extended to the Medical Doctor, Dianna, and Mark, including the compassionate, efficient, and outstanding team who cared so well for Maria at Points West, Red Deer. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Miroslaw Kostarzewski Celebrant.
