John Bittorf passed away on July 7th, 2019 at the age of 73. John grew up in Elmira, Ontario, oldest of
three children and chief antagonist to two younger sisters. Like many young men, he came out west to
join the RCMP and met the love of his life, Shirley. He soon learned the RCMP lifestyle was not his cup of
tea and decided to open a restaurant to pursue his love of cooking. Ironically, he discovered that
cooking did not feed the family; he wanted more for his growing family. He moved north and west, to
Fort McMurray and found his career passion, water treatment, which lead him to his home in Red Deer
and travels around the world treating water.
He dearly loved his wife Shirley. They traveled all over the world visiting every continent except
Antarctica. His greatest accomplishment was his two wonderful children, Kevin and Alicya. They
managed to give John three amazing grandchildren, Skarlette, Drizzitt and Isabel. His family was his top
priority and Sunday dinner was the highlight of his week. Perfect roast beef and fluffy yorkshire brought
great joy to him, his family and to all those attending.
John was an avid golfer and loved to volunteer. He spent many hours volunteering at the food bank,
stocking shelves and cooking at their many events. He was the best back 9 golfer of all time, but the
front 9 not so much.
He is survived by: his wife of 50 years Shirley Bittorf, children : Kevin Bittorf and Alicya Bittorf (Keven);
sisters Norma Hayman & Elaine Butler, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
