It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Vern Samson on July 24, 2019, at the age of 90.
He is survived by his daughter Patti, son Bob (Susan) and daughter Judy (Colleen), grandchildren Laura (Kurtis), Cheryl and Robert as well as great grandchildren Logan and Dylan.
He was predeceased by his wife Kay, his parents and 6 siblings. Dad was born on route from Eden, S. Dakota to St. Walburg, Saskatchewan where he was raised. Saskatchewan would be his home, on and off, for more than half his life, with stops in various towns including Kindersley and Rosetown. It was in Rosetown, he would meet, marry and have 3 children with Kathaleen Hyde, the love of his life.
Dad worked in the automotive business in both Saskatchewan and Alberta. When he retired, he and Mom pulled up stakes in Alberta and built “the lake” home in Cochin, Sask. There they enjoyed many happy years before returning to Alberta to be closer to the kids and grandkids.
Dad was a skilled woodworker and spent many hours in the wood shop building furniture, bird houses and other items for friends and family.
Dad, Grandpa, GG, you will be missed by many with the memories you left in your crafts and forever in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held at Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150-67th Street, Red Deer, Alberta at 1:00Pm, Monday, August 12, 2019. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to STARS Air Ambulance or the charity of your choice.
