Mrs. Hilary Frances Lois McDonald of Red Deer passed away peacefully, following a hard fought battle with Leukemia, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Monday, November 25, 2019 at the age of 85 years. Hilary was born on May 29, 1934 at Chandlers Ford, England; where she grew up and graduated with Honors in Nursing. In May 1957, Hilary sailed from England, arriving in Toronto; where she nursed for a short while. While working at the Eckville Hospital, Hilary met and married a local farmer, Donald McDonald in 1958, and they settled on the farm Northeast of Eckville. Two children were born to this union: Mary and Neil John. Hilary was very busy learning the ways of the farm, along with nursing, community and church activities. Upon retirement, Donald and Hilary moved to Red Deer; where she continued her volunteering, singing and playing the Hand Bells. Hilary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Mary (Greg) Carlyle and grandsons, Clinton and Ryan; her sister-in-law, Margaret (Laurence) Ferguson; as well as her many nieces, nephews and family in England, who all meant the world to her. Hilary was predeceased by her husband, Donald and son, Neil John.
